Alex Blynn: Where did you grow up, and how do you think that shaped your style or outlook?
Iggy Rosales: I grew up in Australia where everyone is blonde, and now I somehow work with all blondes. I think having that mix of beach culture and a slightly oddball art scene gave me a “do whatever you want, but make it look good” attitude.


AB: When did doing hair go from a hobby to a real career—and what pushed you to make it official?
IR: When I tricked my parents into buying me a straightener by saying I needed to start a savings account. I was straightening friends’ hair before school and figured I might as well get paid for it.
AB: In those early days, how did you hustle your way into good gigs or just keep the lights on?
IR: I got an apprenticeship in Brisbane right out of high school, learned from people way better than me, and said yes to pretty much anything—except bad haircuts.


AB: Now that you’re in demand, how do you decide which projects are worth your time?
IR: I’d like to say I’m selective, but honestly, I always say yes to my friends.
AB: Who’s your hair icon—the person that made you want to pick up a brush in the first place?
IR: Cher. She checks every box for camp and glamour.


AB: Is there someone—dead or alive— whose hair you’d kill to get your hands on?
IR: Sailor Moon. Or the Cookie Monster
AB: What’s living on your styling station right now that you swear by?
IR: Too many products I don’t actually need but keep “just in case.” And probably something I stole from a set.

AB: What do you turn to creatively when it’s not about hair—any other outlets or obsessions?
IR: Anything visual—art, fashion, nature. I once made a wig that lit up like a jellyfish, which was probably a cry for help.

AB: What’s on the horizon for you—any dream projects or big moves coming in late 2025 or 2026?
IR: Nothing I can say yet, but I’ll put it this way: I’m not done making things that make people say, “Why would you do that?” in the best way possible.
