Signed with legendary modeling and creative agency The Society, Anaa Saber is a leader in fashion-tech innovation and strategy, giving clear insights and forecasts to clients the world over. Here, VALŪS has teamed up with Saber and NYC’s best vintage atelier, Gabriel Held Vintage, to create this old- as-new fashion concept shoot.

Alex Blynn: You’re someone on many industry leader’s mood boards, but I feel like people don’t necessarily know your backstory.
Anaa Saber: I’m sure they don’t… as much as I do share on the internet, I don’t at the same time, ya know? So I grew up in New York, always been on the east coast for the most part. I’m Pakistani - American and being south Asian is a huge part of my identity and craft, it’s where a lot of my inspiration comes from. Right now I’m living between Tokyo and New York.
AB: What’s your favorite part about spending a lot of time in Tokyo?
AS: Tokyo is such a special place when you actually get to experience living there instead of visiting. My lifestyle is what I value the most, it’s completely contrary to my New York life. It’s humble, it’s quiet, and it’s quaint. No one is bothering you and the time difference makes you feel like you’re living on your own planet. I like this feeling of being left alone. Creates for a lot of introspective time for yourself. I also really love the shopping! There’s no city that’s more inspiring when it comes to the fashion scene.

AB: How did you get your start in fashion?
AS: I have always loved fashion, ever since I was a little girl . I didn’t really have anyone in my life with the same career path to look up to, so it wasn’t truly until high school that I started to take fashion more seriously. Then I went to college at FIT in New York, which helped me transcend into my career. I hustled, I was constantly interning, writing for different magazines, shooting with photographer friends, working with fashion designers around town. Pretty soon all that became my full-time work and lifestyle.

AB: Do you have a career highlight?
AS: Honestly I feel lucky to have built an amazing client roster and have open and flexible collaborators who trust me and my creativity. I'm grateful for all of these moments and that they take me all over the world. I can’t pick one, they all have given me unique perspectives.

AB: You’re a true business woman in the fashion industry, with a plethora of projects
under your belt. What are some of the biggest changes in the industry you’ve noticed, especially since the pandemic?
AS: The industry has shifted toward more digital-minded strategies, more inclusive representation, and a strong emphasis on sustainability. Aside from that, there’s also been a big change in how audiences connect with brands. I think consumers are the smartest they’ve ever been and don’t care for fluff.

AB: As a trend forecaster, what’s next for 2026?
AS: Minimalism, doing less, and with interesting color palettes.
AB: And what are your thoughts on Labubus and Jellycats and the many other hyper-trends which pop up more and more often these days?
AS: I really don’t care for them. I’m pretty anti-trends… having your own take and being unique is what’s special!
